Abstract

This research aimed to identify the variable of synchronous attention among children with autism spectrum disorder and their normal peers, and to know the significance of the differences between children with autism spectrum disorder and their normal peers according to the variable of synchronous attention.

The current research identified children with autism spectrum disorder who were present at the time of the research in Al-Noureen Centers for Autism and Learning Disorders and Dr. Mustafa Al-Yasiri Institutes for Speech and Communication in Al-Diwaniyah Governorate and its affiliated districts, as well as their ordinary peers from their brothers and relatives who live with them in the same house and for the year (2022).

The two research samples were drawn in a simple random way and by lottery method, with (60) children with autism spectrum disorder, and (68) children from normal peers, and the (JTAT) scale was used to collect data on the concurrent variable of interest that was developed by both Bean & Eigsti, 2012) ) in light of Tomasello’s definition of simultaneous attention, after extracting the translation validity index for it and other necessary psychometric properties. What or more, to start paying attention to an event or subject, and then responding to it by directing and sharing looks, gestures, words, and facial expressions.” The results of the research showed the following data:

1- The children of the research sample with autism spectrum disorder do not have simultaneous attention behaviour.

2- The normal children have simultaneous and statistically significant attention.

3- There is no significant difference from the correlation of simultaneous attention variable among children with autism spectrum disorder and their normal peers.

The research came out with a number of conclusions, recommendations, and suggestions
